Hometown holiday hospitality will prevail as Pemberville hosts its annual Christmas in the Village Saturday Nov. 26 and Sunday Nov. 27. Festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Christmas in the Village will coincide with this year’s National Shop Small Business Promotion. Pemberville has a vast number of “small businesses” that exemplify the endeavor of buying local.

As a special feature on Saturday only, live reindeer will be on display in the heart of downtown. Their owner, Ron Disher and staff will be on hand to answer questions about these unique animals and their role in helping Santa pull his sleigh.

Ron and Megan Disher's "Santa Claus & Claudine, the
Happiest Reindeer Ever!" will be the inspiration for one of
the decorated Christmas Trees in this year's Festival of
Trees, part of Pemberville's annual Christmas in the
Village celebration.

Pemberville’s Henline Building will be the setting for this year’s Festival of Trees entitled “A Storybook Christmas.” This year’s theme will be depicted by 14 decorators, with each tree showcasing decorations inspired by a book penned by a local author, including Ron and Megan Disher’s “Santa Claus & Claudine, the Happiest Reindeer Ever!” (signing Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.); Stacey Gabel’s “The New Blue Tractor, The Bulldozers Dig A Pond and It’s Time to Combine” (signing Saturday 10 a.m. to noon); Jim Mollenkopf’s “One Summer Day In America, Civil War Stories of Northwest Ohio,” and “The Great Black Swamp I, II & III” (signing Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Local musicians will be performing holiday selections throughout the festival. Admission is $5 per person, with proceeds benefitting the Pemberville-Freedom Area Historical Society. Tickets, which are available at the door, include complimentary refreshments, the chance to “vote” for your favorite tree and entrance in a drawing for Opera House season tickets.

Also in the Henline Building, the Historical Society will host its annual Holiday “Sweet Shoppe” featuring a variety of homemade baked goods including cookies, pies, sweet breads, candies and more. All proceeds benefit the society’s continued restoration/maintenance efforts.

Other Christmas in the Village highlights include:

• Pemberville’s oldest frame house will be decked out and open for free tours. Area decorators will adorn the interior and exterior of the Pember-Furry House and One Room School with decorations that will reflect Christmas past, including vintage post cards, old musical instruments, kitchen graniteware, handmade ornaments and honeycomb decorations. Costumed hosts will share tidbits of Pemberville history.

The One Room School will offer hands-on activities for children, and sweet smells of the past will prevail both in the old smokehouse and blacksmith shop out back. The Historical Society’s famous sausage on a stick will be offered throughout the day, along with old-fashioned suet pudding and mulled cider.

• Christmas carols will fill the air in the village’s downtown area.

• Santa and Mrs. Claus, direct from the North Pole, are scheduled to make appearances in town as well. Photos with Santa & Claudine the Reindeer will be offered for a nominal fee Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Pemberville’s Drug Store will be offering a complimentary Card-Making Station Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Greeting cards are being sent to active military personnel.

• Beeker’s General Store will host a Holiday Trunk Show in the adjacent Henline Building featuring a number of crafters and artisans including Wild Tree products, jewelry art, aprons, hair accessories, nature photo art/cards and more. Beeker’s will also offer complimentary marshmallows and sticks for roasting around the holiday fire.

• Riverbank Antique Market, along with Hannah’s House, will host its Holiday Open House featuring a variety of

Vintage Christmas collectibles and keepsakes.

• The Tea Retreat will be offering complimentary tea sampling as a part of the festivities.

• Downtown Deco will partner with the Wood County Unit of the American Cancer Society for the kick-off of their annual Holiday Wreath/Swag sale. Fresh wreaths/swags will be available for purchase, with orders being taken as well.

• Pemberville’s eateries and quaint shops will be open and offering a variety of holiday specials.
