Children attending Owens Community College’s Child Care Center are showing off their creative talents at the seventh annual Children’s Art Show running through Aug. 4 in the Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery. Admission is free.

The exhibit includes works of young artists ages 4 months to 5 years old, including multiple 3-D sculptures, paintings, drawings and self-portraits.

The show is the culmination of a year of artistic training at the Child Care Center, where instructors utilize the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy in their art curriculum, inviting the children’s interests to guide artistic creations. Books and other literature incorporated into the art education program influenced many of the masterpieces.

Children enrolled in the Owens Child Care Center have the opportunity to interact with the College’s Early Childhood Education students, which provides opportunities for more individual attention. Owens students benefit through practical hands-on lab experiences that deepen their understanding about young children.

Hours at the Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 1-800-GO-OWENS, ext. 7404.
