If you haven’t already, it’s time to dust off your bike, check the tires and get ready to participate in the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments’ (TMACOG) Bike Week (May 12-22) and Bike to Work Day (Friday, May 20).
During Bike Week, TMACOG is inviting people to explore our region on a bike, using the many bike paths for recreational cycling and bike lanes that make commuting by bicycle feasible and safe.
More information about biking and maps of area bike paths is available at tmacog.org/bikeweek.htm. All Bike Week events are free. No registration is required.
Bike Week Events include: • All week, May 12-22, TARTA fares are 25 cents for cyclists using bus bike racks and Toledo Area Bicyclists (TAB) has group rides scheduled daily.
• Sunday, May 15: Bike Safety Rodeo at Oregon Fest on Dustin Rd, noon to 4 p.m.
• Monday, May 16: Bicycle Maintenance/Safety Inspections at area bike shops. Call TMACOG at 419-241-9155, ext. 116 for more information.
• Tuesday, May 17: Bike Safety Rodeo (4-6 p.m.) and Family Fun Ride (7 p.m.) at Wildwood Metropark, 5100 W. Central Ave.
• Wednesday, May 18: Ride of Silence, University of Toledo, 6:45 p.m. The community ride is conducted at slow speeds and in silence, making the case for sharing the road and driving and riding safely. Visit www.biketoledo.com for more information.
• Thursday, May 19: Hostelling International Bike Ride at 10 a.m. Double Cannonball Ride, 28 miles. Meet in Oak Openings Metropark, 4139 Girdham Rd., (two miles west of Toledo Express Airport), Swanton. Call 419-885-0528 for more information.

• Saturday, May 21: Bike Extravaganza at the Toledo Farmer’s Market, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Bicyclists are invited to take a Saturday morning ride and meet up at the Farmers Market, Superior Street in downtown Toledo. Free coffee and t-shirts while they last.
• Sunday, May 22: Get Away Ride: Wabash Cannonball Trail ride with the Toledo Area Bicyclists, 1 p.m.
