Visitors to the 35th Annual Sauder Village Quilt Show will be treated to a magnificent display of more than 400 quilts celebrating the fine craftsmanship of quilters from throughout the Midwest.
The six-day event, which will be held April 26 through May 1, will also include many unique quilting demonstrations, shopping, a special display of thread painted quilts, workshops and more.
“We’re proud to help share the rich tradition of quilting with our guests,” shared Linda Rufenacht, manager of Threads of Tradition Quilt Shop at Sauder Village. “It has been an honor to showcase the talents of so many accomplished quilters for the past 35 years and we look forward to celebrating their fine craftsmanship for many years to come.”

Throughout the show, both traditional and modern interpretations of quilts will be represented in categories that include pieced, appliqué and mixed technique to contemporary art, masters, baby, miniatures and youth quilts. Each year, the show is a new experience since once a quilt has been exhibited it cannot be re-entered.
Other highlights of the popular event include live piano music and quilting demonstrations. Throughout the week, many quilters will volunteer their time to share their talents in demonstrations that include sewing laminated lunch bags, piecing, hand appliqué, making continuous pinwheels, hand quilting and wool appliqué.
There will also be a fabric design demonstration on Wednesday only. Guests can enjoy a special exhibit of thread painted quilts by guest artist Nancy Prince and quilts by Anne Stamm Merrell will be on display in the Sauder Heritage Inn lobby.
Another popular element of this event is the annual Quilt Challenge. This year’s theme is “Flight of Imagination.” Starting a year ago, entrants purchased a challenge packet and were given the challenge to take those fabrics and create a quilt design that includes both Flying Geese and Bird in Air blocks. Always a crowd favorite, this spectacular display will include nearly 40 unique challenge quilts in the lobby of Founder’s Hall.
This year’s special guest is award-winning artist Nancy Prince, of Orlando, Fla., who specializes in thread painting. Prince will be sharing her expertise at a number of workshops throughout the show. A limited number of workshop spaces are still available. For a detailed list of class offerings, visit www.saudervillage.org or call 800-590-9755.
The Sauder Village Quilt Show runs Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A special “Exhibit Only” admission pass is available for the annual Quilt Show for $10. The admission price for the Quilt Show and Historic Village is $14.50 for adults and $7.50 for students ages 6-16. And again this year, children 16 and under are free every Sunday this season.
