Frank Warren, PostSecret Project creator to speak
Internationally acclaimed author Frank Warren, creator of the PostSecret Project, will share insight into the postcard and blog phenomenon March 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Owens Community College’s Student Health and Activities Center.

The Owens Toledo-area Campus is located on Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township.

Warren is the creator of the blog phenomenon titled the PostSecret Project, a collection of highly personal and artfully decorated postcards mailed anonymously from around the world that display the soulful secrets people never voice to others.

The project originated from a community art project based on the simple concept of asking people to anonymously send a secret on a decorated postcard. Since November 2004, Warren has received more than 400,000 postcards, with secrets spanning from sexual taboos and criminal activity to confessions of secret beliefs, hidden acts of kindness, shocking habits and fear.

“Mr. Warren is an extremely talented individual and is known internationally for his PostSecret Project, which has positively impacted the lives of thousands by enabling them to share their most private secrets through anonymous postcards,” said Barbara Barkan, Owens Director for the Center for Fine and Performing Arts. “Attendees will certainly enjoy the simplicity of his message as well as the funny and inspiring stories behind the secrets.”

Copies of Warren’s books will be available for purchase during the event. He will also sign copies of his books at the event’s conclusion. Tickets for the lecture are $20 for floor seating and $10 for bleacher seating. American Sign Language interpreters will be provided during the presentation.

To purchase tickets, visit owens.tix.com or contact the College’s Box Office. For more information about this event, contact the Center for Fine and Performing Arts at (567) 661-2787 or 1-800-GO-OWENS, Ext. 2787.

Heartbeat fundraiser
A high-fashion model at 15. A leading role in a film opposite John Wayne at 21. A starring role in the critically acclaimed 1971 film, “Summer of “42.” Thirty years as spokeswoman for CoverGirl Cosmetics.

It would seem that actress Jennifer O’Neill had it all—fame, fortune, beauty, and more, yet she is the first to admit that she has had a troubled private life.

She will share her personal story, “Surviving Myself,” at the Heartbeat of Toledo 40th anniversary banquet March 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Gladieux Meadows on Healtherdowns Boulevard, Toledo.

“Sometimes we have a life that looks almost enviable on the outside—mine did—modeling in Paris at 15, traveling the world, doing all the movies…but I had this hole in my heart,” she said.

O’Neill’s story tells of teen suicide attempts, abortion, sexual abuse, domestic violence, depression, failed marriages and her journey of spiritual and emotional healing. Today she serves as spokeswoman for the National Silent No More Awareness Campaign.

Tickets for the dinner are $50 each and can be ordered by calling Heartbeat at 419-241-9131.

Heartbeat of Toledo offers free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and emotional, educational, and practical support to pregnant women. Prenatal and parenting classes are also offered through Heartbeat’s Heart to Heart Learning Center.
