Just in time for Christmas, the Little Sister of the Poor Sacred Heart Home in Oregon has received a new transport van funded through grants from the Ohio Department of Transportation/Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments and the Toledo Rotary Foundation.
The new van was scheduled to be delivered at the Sacred Heart Home, 930 S. Wynn Rd., Thursday, Dec. 16. Peggy Ricard, from TMACOG, and Rotary Club of Toledo President Eric Fankhauser were on hand to present the keys to Sr. Cecilia Sartorius, superior of the Little Sisters.
The total cost of the new transport vehicle was $37,951, with 80 percent of the cost covered by the ODOT grant and the other 20 percent funded by the Rotary Foundation of Toledo grant.
The, modified to accommodate residents in wheelchairs, will be driven by the Sisters and the staff of the Sacred Heart Home. The vehicle will serve the daily transportation needs of the elderly residents and will be used for daily medical appointments, physical therapy and other necessary trips.
“This new transport vehicle was badly needed and is truly a blessing,” Sr. Cecilia said, adding that without the grant funding, this type of vehicle would be outside of the ability of the Little Sisters to purchase.
