Enjoy Old Fashioned Christmas in the Village Nov. 27

Christmas carols, decorated trees and Santa and Mrs. Claus will ring in the holiday season at Pemberville’s annual Christmas in the Village Nov. 27 and Nov. 28. The festivities are scheduled from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Holiday happenings include:
• A Festival of Trees at the Pemberville Opera House. Fourteen tree decorators will put their talents to work depicting the theme, “A Collector’s Christmas.” Local musicians will play holiday favorites on the piano, dulcimer and bells. Admission is $5 per person with proceeds benefitting the Pemberville-Freedom Area Historical Society. Tickets are available at the door and include complimentary refreshments, the chance to “vote” for your favorite tree and entry in a drawing for Opera House season tickets.

•The Historical Society will also host its annual Holiday Bake Sale in the Town Hall. A sweet variety of homemade treats including candies, cookies, sweet breads and more, will be available, with all proceeds benefiting the society’s ongoing restoration/maintenance efforts.

• Pemberville’s oldest frame house will be decked out and open for free tours. The Pember-Furry House and One-Room School will be decorated inside and out to reflect the theme, “Homespun Holidays.” Whimsical elves, handmade ornaments and quilted accessories will be featured, and costumed hosts will share tidbits of Pemberville history.


There will be hands-on activities for children in the One-Room School and visitors can enjoy demonstrations in the blacksmithing shop and the Historical Society’s ever-famous sausage on a stick and old-fashioned suet pudding being offered throughout the day at the smokehouse.

• A variety of Christmas carols will ring throughout held downtown area. Santa and Mrs. Claus, direct from the North Pole, are scheduled to make appearances both days in town as well.

• Pemberville’s Medicine Shoppe will offer a complimentary Card-Making Station Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Holiday cards created throughout the event will be sent to active military personnel.

• Beeker’s General Store will host a Holiday Trunk Show in the adjacent Henline Building featuring a number of crafters/artisans including artist Janet Davies, Purse Love and Wild Tree Products. Beeker’s will also offer complimentary marshmallows and sticks for roasting around the holiday fire.

• Riverbank Antique Market will host its Holiday Open House featuring a variety of vintage Christmas collectibles and keepsakes. The market will also include offer a picturesque setting for Mrs. Claus.

• Downtown Deco will partner with the Wood County Unit of the American Cancer Society for the kick-off of their annual Holiday Wreath/Swag sale. Fresh wreaths/swags will be available for purchase, with orders being taken as well.

• The Country Mercantile will be selling tickets for Carriage Rides with Santa (Saturday only).

• Pemberville’s eateries and shops will be open and offering a variety of holiday specials. Poppin’ George will be featured in the downtown area with his kettle corn as well.

• Pemberville’s Tree Lighting Ceremony will conclude the days’ festivities Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. on the lawn of the Town Hall. Eastwood Band instrumentalists will perform a number of holiday selections. Pemberville’s Independent Merchants Association (PIMA) will serve complimentary refreshments following the lighting.
