Despite the City of Toledo’s budget woes, Red, White, KABOOM will explode over the Toledo skyline as usual, thanks to efforts by The Blade and its event sponsors. Spanning three days, the Friday-through-Sunday celebration will be bigger than ever and will offer something for everyone, organizers say.

A menu of mouth-watering food items will be offered by area restaurateurs at Taste Toledo sponsored by Toledo Tent. The venue will be open all three days beginning at noon and will stretch along the Red, White, KABOOM event site near Promenade Park. Attendees can purchase food tickets and redeem them at vendor booths to sample the wares of popular dining hotspots like Tony Packo’s, Mancy’s, Shorty’s, Cold Stone Creamery, Hungry I, Gino’s, Bierut, Yeeha’s Buckin Bar & Grill, We Are Ribs, City BBQ, Tea Tree and Opa! Gyros.

A nearly nonstop concert will take place on the Promenade Park Stage every evening, featuring live entertainment from Hotel California, the endorsed tribute band for The Eagles; Draw the Line, the endorsed Aerosmith tribute band; the Toledo School for Performing Arts Steel Drum Band; Army 338 Reserve Band and the Toledo Symphony.

There will plenty to tap your foot to in the afternoons, as well. The semifinalists in The Blade Battle of the Bands competition will dominate the Promenade Park stage Friday and Saturday. Last year’s concert audiences may remember enjoying Crystal Bowersox live at Red, White, KABOOM. The 2010 American Idol contender was one of the ultimate winners of Battle 2009.

A nominal admission fee of $3 per adult (12 and over) is charged after 4 p.m. on each of the three nights to help cover the cost of security and the otherwise free entertainment. No food, beverages, coolers or pets are allowed inside Promenade or International parks during the weekend-long event. For a full list of safety rules, visit redwhitekaboom.com.
