Woodville, Oak Harbor plan Independence Day events The Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce is planning a gala Independence Day celebration Saturday July 3 along the Portage River, in downtown Oak Harbor.
The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with opening ceremonies, followed by entertainment performances by Class A Dance Studio and music provided by Legacy II.
The winner of the Village Anniversary T-shirt contest will be announced. At 8 p.m. Apple Festival Royalty will hold their famous “Duck Race” on the Portage River. Watch as the excitement builds to see if your duck is a lucky prize winner.
The night would not be complete without the sky being illuminated with the most spectacular fireworks display around!
No coolers will be allowed. All beverages must be purchased at the event.
The Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to help with the celebration. Volunteers are needed for gate checking, ticket sales, and bartending. Call 419-898-0479 to volunteer or obtain more information.
********** The Woodville 4th of July celebration will be held July 2, 3 and 4 at Trailmarker Park in Woodville.
The annual celebration will include rides, games, food, entertainment and, the circus is coming, too. A pre-celebration (no rides) will be held at 7 p.m. July 1.

Dads rule at the zoo The Toledo Zoo has been creating great family memories for generations, so it makes sense to spend Father’s Day, June 20 making a few new memories with Dad at the zoo.
On Father’s Day, dads whose kids bring them to the zoo get in free. In addition to seeing the animals, take part in some cool games throughout the day, all of which are free with regular zoo admission.

Adopt a shelter cat June is Adopt A Shelter Cat month across America and celebration, and Planned Pethood is offering special discounts to promote this event.
Throughout the month of June, cat adoption fees are $15 off and for those who adopt more than one kitty, it’s $20 off each cat.
Planned Pethood is also overflowing with senior cats and dogs that have been in a loving home until their owners could no longer afford to keep them. To assist in finding them permanent homes, Planned Pethood is offering senior dogs and cats for a 50 percent discount until June 30. Applicants will be screened to ensure they have the means to support a new pet.
