Food For Thought, a local nonprofit group that helps feed the area’s less fortunate, received a donation of a vehicle to tow the organization’s mobile food pantry.
The organization put out a call for help last week seeking donations to help replace their `83 Chevy c30 1-ton truck, which needed extensive repairs.
“It has had repeated repairs such as transmission, alternator, power steering pump, carburetor, and now we have broken leaf springs in the rear suspension,” Assistant Director Matt Wahlgren told The Press last week, adding, “The repair will cost around $1,200 and that will still not fix the problems we have with the vehicle stalling.”
A donor, who has requested to remain anonymous, contacted the organization after viewing a story reporting the need.
Food for Thought will be using the new vehicle, a ¾ ton, 4X4 1999 Chevy Suburban, to pull their mobile pantry, used to pick up food, deliver to five mobile pantry sites each month, and transport items to the Toledo downtown library every Saturday for distribution to the area’s homeless.
In addition to the wonderful donation, Food For Thought was contacted by local mechanic, John Bigelow, to repair their old truck, which will be used as a back-up vehicle and to tow the organization’s larger trailer when needed.
