It’s no trick – families are in for a treat this Halloween season at the Toledo Museum of Art.

The museum is offering classes, workshops, hands-on activities and other programs for the whole family.

On Saturday, Oct. 31, there will be Halloween fun throughout the Museum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., when the galleries become an enchanted land of fortunetellers, princesses and other characters.

Costumed staff will re-create works of art as visitors follow a map to find special places in the museum. Children are encouraged to dress as their favorite storybook hero or heroine, but are asked to leave props like toy swords, wands and other objects at home. There will be treats as you leave the museum.

Activities galore are planned leading up to the holiday, with everything from workshops on making glass ghosts to mystery tours. They include:

Skull Lights Workshop, 6-9 p.m., Oct. 30, Metals Studio. Make eerie, skull-shaped candleholders. All materials included; no prior experience necessary. Open to ages 14 and up. ($50 for Museum members/$65 for nonmembers) Registration required; call 419-254-5080.

Free Mystery in the Cloister, 7 p.m., Oct. 30, Cloister. The North Coast Theater presents a short comedy written especially for performance in the Cloister. Fun for all ages.

Night in the Museum: After-Hours Flashlight Tour, 10 p.m., Oct. 30, meet in Herrick Lobby. With a flashlight and a guide, see what the museum is like when the lights go out. Tickets available Tuesday, Oct. 27 by calling 419-254-5771, ext. 7448 ($5 members/$10 nonmembers; limited to 100 participants).
