Opera Houses offers an “Evening With Legends”

The Pemberville Opera House “Live in the House” Concert Series will present “An Evening with Legends” Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

“An Evening With Legends” features actors Michael and Jacqueline Hurwitz, from the Columbus area, who portray two pivotal characters in U.S. history - President Abraham Lincoln and Harriet Beecher Stowe. The program will feature a meeting between the two in the Lincoln White House. (Although few realize it, Lincoln basically blamed Stowe for the Civil War due to her writing of Uncle Tom’s Cabin.)

“Reflections from Within” Poetry Contest under way

The Wood County Committee on Aging has kicked off its fifth annual poetry contest, “Reflections from Within.”

The event, sponsored by Blakely Care Center, has typically drawn more than 40 entries from throughout Wood County.

 
New book will give a glimpse of a view from Santa’s knee

Just about all the celebrities do it. Take a stroll through the biography section of the local book store or library and peruse the racks after racks of biographies and autobiographies that chronicle the lives of the famous and infamous. Now that the busy Christmas season ins over, one local “celeb,” Santa Tim Stapleton, can devote time to finishing up his book, which details his half century of experiences of bringing holiday cheer to the young and young-at-heart. For Stapleton, it all started back in 1958 when he bought a red Santa suit for $8.95 at Woolworth’s to make the holidays bright for his younger siblings.
