The Great American Trailer Park Musical
Owens Community College Fine and Performing Arts will present, “The Great American Trailer Park Musical,” April 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. and April 6 and 13 at 3 p.m. in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts Mainstage Theatre.
The musical tells the story of a new tenant at Armadillo Acres – and she’s wreaking havoc all over Florida’s most exclusive trailer park. When Pippi, the stripper on the run, comes between the Dr. Phil-loving, agoraphobic Jeannie and her tollbooth collector husband –storms begin to brew.

Easter Bunny Breakfast
The East Toledo Family Center, located at 1020 Varland Ave., Toledo, will host a “Breakfast with the Easter Bunny” April 12 from 9 a.m.-noon. Pancakes will be served until 11:30 a.m.
The Easter Bunny will be available for photos, and families are invited to bring their cameras. There will also be children’s crafts.

Egg-Stravaganza
Friends of Lake Township Parks will present an Egg-Stravaganza Egg Hunt and Breakfast with the Easter Bunny Saturday, April 12, 8-11 a.m. at the Lake Township Administration Building, 27975 Cummings Rd.
The breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, sausage links or bacon and coffee or juice. The requested donation is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $3 for children 12 and under.
Free events, which include a kids’ craft area and a coloring contest, will run from 8:30-11 a.m. The egg hunt, which starts at 11:15 a.m., will be broken into age groups – 6 months-2 years; 3-4 years, 5-6 years, 7-9 years and 10-12 years. Pictures will be available with the Easter Bunny for a $4 charge.

The Toledo Doll & Bear Show will be held April 6, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Theater Lobby at the Stranahan Great Hall, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo.
The show will feature more than 270 tables of merchandise, including dolls, bears, antique toys and more, from vendors from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana, as well as other states.
“This is a very popular, well-attended show,” said Jean Garrison, local collector who will be on hand for the show. “Toledo is known for having some high-dollar sales – sometimes $20,000 or more. One local collector bought a doll for $30,000 and turned around and sold it for $50,000.”
Doll appraisals will be available by Floyd Jones, doll appraiser for several recent episodes of PBS’s “Antiques Roadshow.” In addition, Shari McMasters will be on site stringing dolls.

Paint Away Polio
The Oregon-Northwood Rotary Club will present “Paint Away Polio,” a fundraiser to End Polio Now, April 12 from 6-10:30 p.m. at Oak Shade Grove, 3624 Seaman St., Oregon.
Participants are invited to enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres while working on their own masterpieces. The cost is $55 per ticket, which includes instructions by Uncork The Artist, art supplies, hors d’oeuvres and wine ticket. No painting talent or experience is necessary; instructors will offer step-by-step guidance.
Admission is open to those 21 and older; outside alcohol is not permitted. A cash bar will be available.

The Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 12 and younger April 12 at 2 p.m.
Participants will begin downtown and then proceed to the Portage Fire Station on Water Street, where children can visit with Mr. and Mrs. Bunny, take photos with the Easter Bunny and have a chance to win one of the chamber’s special Golden Egg baskets.

“Music Man” auditions set
Perrysburg Musical Theatre will hold auditions for its upcoming performance of “The Music Man,” which will be staged July 31 and Aug. 1-3 at Perrysburg High School.
The production, which will be directed by Clark Ausloos with musical direction by Pam Williams-Rumer, will feature roles for all ages from 7 years old and up.
Auditions are open to the community. General auditions (ages 13 and up) will be held April 21 and 22, 4-7 p.m. at the Commodore Building in Perrysburg.
Auditions for children ages 7-9 will be held April 26, 10-11:30 a.m. at St. Timothy’s Church in Perrysburg. Children ages 10 - 12 will audition April 26, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., also at St. Timothy’s Church. Invited call-backs will be held April 28, 4-7 p.m. at the Commodore Building in Perrysburg.

Oregon Fest contests
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Oregon Fest, the planning committee has designated this year’s theme as “The Best of Oregon.”
The festival, which will be held May 18 will feature arts and crafts, a Business Fair, Classic Car Show, Festival Foods, kids’ art projects, a Living History Encampment, Quality of Life Tent, rides, games, prizes, free stage entertainment, a Grand Parade and more.
New this year will be a number of contests designed to celebrate what’s best about Oregon. Contests include:
- People’s Choice – the Best of Oregon. Through April 18, community members are invited to vote for their Oregon favorites, including restaurants, pizza, grocery store, bank, pharmacy and more. Ballots will be sent home with school-age children and are available at the Oregon Library.
- Distinctly My Oregon – a photo contest seeking entries that depict something “distinctly Oregon.” Photos must be printed and submitted by April 18. Photos may be turned in at the Oregon Branch Library, 3340 Dustin Rd., or mailed to Oregon Fest Photo Contest, P.O. Box 167774, Oregon OH 43616. Photos must include the photographer’s name, address, phone and location of picture written on the back.
Judges will choose 10 photos based on content, impact and creativity. Photos will be on display at the library April 21-May 7 for members of the public to select their favorite. Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice prizes will be awarded at the Fest.

Teen Poetry Contest
The Harris-Elmore Public Library will sponsor its eighth annual Teen Poetry Contest during the month of April.
Prizes include $25 gift certificates to a local book store, which will be given in the categories of “Male Poet Serious,” “Male Poet Humorous,” “Female Poet Serious” and “Female Poet Humorous.” The contest is open to students in grades 7-12, or the equivalent for homeschooled students.
Poems should be typed on one side of the paper (but may be more than one page in length) and submitted to the Library, 328 Toledo St., Elmore, by April 10. There is a limit of three entries per person.

Taking it slow
The Toledo Museum of Art is inviting area residents to stop by and take part in Slow Art Day April 12. Nearly 200 venues in North America, Europe and Australia are expected to participate the international observance, which encourages people to take their time looking at works of art, then gather to discuss what they saw with others.
TMA Docent Program Manager Paula Brown-Gray, who coordinates the day’s activities locally, describes slow looking as “total and full engagement with the works.”
The Museum has selected six works to feature on Slow Art Day. Participants can view the objects anytime between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, April 12. Enough time should be allowed to spend at least 10 minutes observing each work. Those attending can bring lunch or purchase a meal from the Museum Café to eat while discussing the works of art with others in the Green Room starting at noon.

“West Side Story” tells the tale of star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria as they struggle to rise above the hatred and intolerance that surrounds them.
The Bernstein and Sondheim score, considered to be one of Broadway’s finest, features such classics of the American musical theatre as “Something’s Coming,” “Tonight,” “America,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Somewhere.”

Dart Frog Dash
Want to run a 5K, but not sure where to start? Let the Toledo Zoo help; you still have time to register and get fit for the Medical Mutual Dart Frog Dash, which will be held Saturday, May 17.
With regular tips on training, nutrition and more right up to race day, the zoo helps participants get ready every step of the way.
Walk or run the course, which travels through zoo grounds and surrounding neighborhoods. Make it a family event with the 1K “fun run,” for kids.
This year, as an optional extra for the Dart Frog Dash, runners can help the zoo raise extra dollars to purchase fish for the new Aquarium, opening in spring, 2015, by asking friends to make online donations to show their support for Dart Frog Dash participation.

Kids invited to get STEAMed
Area children from preschool through middle school are invited to enjoy a fun and educational event April 15 at Terra State Community College in Fremont.
Terra State students and faculty from a variety of areas, including the Early Childhood Education Department and the Terra Association of Future Teachers (TAFT), will host the STEAM (science, technology, education, arts and math) event from 3-7 p.m. in the Student Activities Center on campus.
Children can explore the world of STEAM as they experiment with rockets, design airplanes, engage in new computer technologies, explore pop-up playgrounds and discover the arts.

Spring break at the zoo

1st Run & Ride set
Cedar Point will present the inaugural Run & Ride race series in June.
The event will feature three races for competitors of all ages and skill levels – the Cedar Point Half-Marathon, the Millennium Force 5K and Snoopy’s One-Mile Fun Run.
The Half-Marathon, which will be held June 29 at 6:45 a.m., will test the skills of even the best runners. This 13.1 mile run will take participants into downtown Sandusky, across the picturesque Cedar Point Causeway and along the historic Cedar Point midways.
The registration fee for the half-marathon includes a finisher medal, commemorative long-sleeve tech t-shirt and complimentary admission into Cedar Point Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, June 27-29.
The Millennium Force 5K will wind its way around the amusement park, taking runners past towering rides and coasters
Five dollars from each registration fee will go to the Chris Smith Memorial Fund, which benefits the high school athletic booster clubs at Sandusky, Perkins and Sandusky Central Catholic.
Adults and kids of all ages will enjoy Snoopy’s One-Mile Fun Run, which will take racers past the GateKeeper and around Planet Snoopy and Kiddy Kingdom before crossing the finish line.
The Millennium Force 5K and Snoopy’s One-Mile Fun Run will take place at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28. The registration fee for both races includes a commemorative bib number, t-shirt and discounted rates on admission tickets to Cedar Point.
Chip-timing will be used in the Half-Marathon and 5K events to provide runners with instant results and determine the top prize winners. Also, all participants can purchase specially-discounted admission tickets to Cedar Point for the race weekend.

Bus trip planned
The Life Scholars program at Terra State Community College is now taking registrations for a September bus trip to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia Sept. 15-19.
The five-day, four-night excursion will include a stop in Pittsburgh where travelers will take a Gateway Clipper Cruise, a guided tour of the city including the University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning, a tour of the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and the Duquesne Incline.
In Philadelphia, visitors will have a guided tour of Independence Hall and Liberty Bell Center, experience the Founding Fathers show and a performance of Freedom Rising, and see the National Constitution Center. Other stops along the way will include Sturgis Pretzel Factory, Wilbur Chocolates and Ephrata Cloister.
The package, which includes motorcoach transportation, four breakfasts, three full-course dinners, taxes and meal gratuities, and baggage handling, is $760 per person for double occupancy and $970 for single.

Junior Pilot Camp
Junior Pilot Camp will be offered this summer for youths 11-16 at the Erie-Ottawa International Airport in Port Clinton.
Camps will be offered June 16-20, July 14-18 and Aug. 18-22 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The weeklong classes will expose participants to the aviation industry. Participants will gain hands-on experience in the physics and history of flight and learn about airport maintenance and management. Classes will also include an introduction to flight in airplane and rotorcraft.

Hayes children’s series debuts
The first session of the Hayes Presidential Center's new children’s educational series, “Second Saturdays R 4 Kids,” set for April 12, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., will offer kids and their parents/adult companions the chance to volunteer to serve in the Civil War.
Participants will experience being “mustered in,” and learn about soldiers, officers, and military training (drills, firing positions, etc.). The day includes special activities and a make-and-take-project. Families are not obliged to stay for the entire three-hours.
Admission is $7.50 for adults and $1 for children, which includes admission to the Hayes Museum where the special exhibit, “Buckeye President: Rutherford B. Hayes,” is on display.
