17th Black Swamp Arts Festival set for Sept. 11-13

Planning is now under way for the 17th annual Black Swamp Arts Festival, which will run from Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. through Sept. 13 at 5 p.m. in downtown Bowling Green.

The festival will feature a variety of visual artists from across the country, local and national musical acts and an interactive youth art area – all free of charge. 

In addition to live music, including national, regional and local musical artists on the Main Stage located off Main Street directly behind Panera Bread and Sam B’s Restaurants, there will be a large variety of food and beverages in the Concessions Garden situated adjacent to the stage.

Members of S.C.R.A.P. – Sandusky County Restorers of Antique Power – are at

once both collectors and historians of sorts.

The members lovingly maintain and restore machines from yesteryear so that they can demonstrate the importance of that power for what it meant at that time.

The restorers group, along with co-sponsor Sandusky County Park District and host Buckeye Allis Club, Inc., will hold the 21st annual Antique Tractor & Engine Show Sept. 5-7 at White Star Park, located a mile south of Gibsonburg. (From Gibsonburg, take S.R. 300 south to east on U.S. 6 and then north on Twp. Road 60 to the park entrance.)

The roller skating rink at Pearson Park holds a special place in many people’s hearts and memories including countless couples who met and felt that spark when their hands joined for a skate around the oval and parents who taught their kids to skate on the same place they learned themselves.

When it opened in 1938, the 220-foot-long, 120-foot-wide oval roller skating rink was the largest outdoor skating rink in Ohio. The rink, shelter and nearby tennis courts were built by the WPA at a cost of $17,000.
