part entertainment and art as Owens Community College’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts welcomes the Soul Street Dance Company Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre.

“Owens Community College is proud to welcome one of the country’s leading dance touring groups to Northwest Ohio,” said Barbara Barkan, Owens operations manager for the Center for Fine and Performing Arts. “Soul Street Dance Company is known for captivating audiences with their unique style of dance, which features an array of gravity-defying moves. Attendees will be on the edge of their seats in amazement of the group’s skills.”

Founded in 1996, Soul Street Dance Company is comprised of five professional performers who have mastered the art of dance ranging from Brazil’s capoeira to New York City-style break dancing. Based in Houston, the group features a variety of dance styles and selections, including a mix of hip-hop, classical and new dance styles with urban-fashioned costumes and comic delivery.

Among the musical selections accompanying each Soul Session Dance Concert are songs from Michael Jackson, James Brown, Leonard Bernstein, Nat “King” Cole and Earth, Wind and Fire.

Toledo Zoo’s Frozentoesen celebration proves there’s life in the season.

The fun begins with half-price admission throughout January and February, plus Cabin Fever Feeds, live entertainment and the fun of The Toledo Zoo, Frozentoesen is great opportunity to “dig the cool.”

Presented by Mercy Children’s Hospital, Frozentoesen’s Cabin Fever Feeds allow visitors a chance to watch remote video feeds of  their favorite zoo animals at feeding time. Each weekend you can see a different animal chow down. There also will be ice-carving demonstrations each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Live entertainment will feature anything from a puppet show or magic show to a performance by the Toledo School for the Arts’ Afro-Caribbean Dance and Drums group and Glass City Steel Band. Visit the zoo’s Web site,, for a complete schedule of activities.
