The festive sounds of folk music and children’s laughter will fill the air Saturday, May 12 as guests experience “Spring on the Farm” at Sauder Village in Archbold.
Activities planned throughout the day will allow young and old to experience what life was like in rural Ohio more than 150 years ago.
In the historic homes, there will be butter to churn, soap to grate and windows to wash. Guests can help with planting in the historic gardens, wash clothes, clean dandelion greens, play old-fashioned games and more.
In the barnyard area, guests can watch sheep-shearing demonstrations and there will be new baby animals to visit in the historic barns.
At Natives and Newcomers, visitors will smell the smoke of the cooking fires as they step inside the wigwams and Trading Post to hear the stories of the Native Americans. At Pioneer Settlement, guests can help make rope, wash clothes, try rug hooking and grate horseradish. Weather permitting, the sawmill will also be in operation for this special event.
A highlight of the day will be a performance by folk singer Bob Ford. Ford, of Cedarville, Ohio, will perform on the Village Green throughout the day. Guests staying at the inn or campground can enjoy an encore performance as Ford performs at the Heritage Inn Saturday evening.
“Families from throughout the region look forward to our series of ‘farm days’ at Sauder Village,” said Kim Krieger, PR/media relations specialist. “These events offer a day filled with hands-on activities – allowing families to experience how life on the farm changes with the season. Guests are encouraged to come back for Summer on the Farm on July 7 and Fall on the Farm on Oct. 13.”
