It will be an opportunity to rock out for a good cause as the Maxx Band and Phil Barone as Jim Morrison take the stage in “A Tribute to Jim Morrison” Jan. 28 at 8:30 a.m. at the Maumee Indoor Theatre, located at 601 Conant St., Maumee.

The group, which has been jamming together for 25 years on the island of Put-n-Bay, has been the opening performance for nationally recognized bands such as Jefferson Starship, Thin Lizzy and Foghat.

The show includes George Leist, who was a member of the Le Blanc and Carr Band, which opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd. Adding to the mix is Joel Hazzard on bass, who previously played with jazz singer Jon Hendricks – known as “The Father of Vocalese.” Rosie’s Grille star Phil Barone rounds things out as Jim Morrison, bringing charisma and a force to be reckoned with to the stage.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the International Boxing Club, which serves adolescents of varied ages, race and social background from the inner city and neighboring townships throughout Northwest Ohio. The program is offered at no cost, allowing kids from low-income families to enjoy and explore a new sport and benefit from the physical training it offers.

Along with the boxing training, the program offers a disciplined program that instills moral values, an awareness of etiquette for traveling and exposure to other communities and cultures. An emphasis is placed on homework, open communication with the school, and the family of participating youth.
