Metroparks and Hostelling International-Toledo Area Council are planning a vicarious trip around the world this winter, and everyone is invited.
The popular Travel Circle series returns for a new season, with different travel-related presentations each Saturday in January, Febrary and March at rotating Metroparks locations.
Each week will feature a local resident presenting his or her world travel experiences, with photos. Each program begins at 1 p.m. with an optional walk or ski, depending on the weather, followed by a speaker at 2:15 p.m. Admission is free and no reservations are required.
This year’s lineup of programs stretches from Africa to Argentina, Hawaii to a 1,000-mile bicycle adventure from Perrysburg to Maine. Programs, presenters and meeting locations include:
• Jan. 7 – The Party at the End of the World, Lodge at Oak Openings Preserve Metropark. Argentina's many wonders, presented by Allison and Michael Holly.
• Jan. 14 – Desert Desserts to Dubai, Egypt and Petra, meeting room at Secor Metropark. Presented by a Judy Pfaffenberger.
• Jan. 21 – Hawaii, Maui and Oahu, Metroparks Hall at Wildwood Preserve Metropark. The Hawaiian Islands, presented by Tim Kreps.
• Jan. 28 – From the Amazon River Basin to the Galapagos Islands, Metroparks Hall at Wildwood Preserve Metropark. Presented by Rose and Andy Kandik.
• Feb. 4 – Israel and Jordan, Lodge at Oak Openings Preserve Metropark. Presented by Nancy and Tom Verner, Sue Wilson and Ron Toneff.
• Feb. 11 – Bicycling 1,038 miles from Perrysburg to Maine, meeting room at Secor Metropark. Presented by Larry Lindsay.
• Feb. 18 – Brussels, Belgium and Slovakia, Metroparks Hall at Wildwood Preserve Metropark. Presented by Dave Beckwith.
• Feb. 25 – Italy, A Tuscan Adventure, Metroparks Hall at Wildwood Preserve Metropark. Presented by Connie Bauer.
• March 3 – Africa, Animals and More, Lodge at Oak Openings Preserve Metropark. Presented by Judy Pfaffenberger.
• March 10 – An UnBelizeable Beauty, meeting room at Secor Metropark. The beauty of Belize, presented by Laura Schetter.
• March 17 – Cruising the Mediterranean, Metroparks Hall at Wildwood Preserve Metropark. Presented by Leslie Panczner.
March 24 – Vancouver's Winter Olympics 2008, Metroparks Hall at Wildwood Preserve Metropark. Presented by Jack McBride.
March 31 – Yanks Invade London, meeting room at Secor Metropark. Presented by Dana and Deb Smith.
