The Lagrange Street Polish Festival – the annual celebration of the ethnic heritage of the Lagrange neighborhood – will be held July 8, 9 and 10.
The neighborhood will kick off the festivities a little early with a “Raise the Curtain” party at the Ohio Theater, 2915 Lagrange St., where those who are working on the renovation of Toledo’s last neighborhood theater will share their vision and plans for the building.
The party, which will be held July 7 from 5 to 10 p.m. in the theatre’s north parking lot, will be a “mini-festival” complete with musical entertainment by Polka Floyd, food from Stanley’s Market, beverage, tours of the theater and lobby displays of theater renovations. The event is free and open to the public.
Packin’ in the pierogi Polish Festival hours are 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. As always, this year’s festival will feature a children’s area, craft vendors, a variety of Polish food and delicacies and plenty of Polish (Pivo) and American beer.
The best polka bands from throughout the Midwest will entertain throughout the weekend. Other highlights include the ever-popular pierogi-eating contest Saturday afternoon and the “Dancing with the Stars” Polka Contest Sunday afternoon.
General admission is $4 for adults and $3 for seniors with a Golden Buckeye Card on Friday and Saturday. Admission is $2 on Sunday. Children 8 and younger will be admitted free throughout the festival.
Transportation is available from the Central Catholic High School parking lot for $1 round trip. Kids ride free.
Proceeds from the Polish Festival are invested back into the neighborhood through home renovation programs, central business district maintenance and scholarships for local students.
