MetroBarks – a festival for dogs and their owners – returns to Secor Metropark Saturday, June 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

As the festival’s name implies, the dogs are the stars at MetroBarks, with dog-friendly vendors and dog-related activities planned throughout the day. In addition, 15 rescue groups will be on hand with a wide variety of breeds available for adoption.

Programs include kids’ games and art activities, dog washes, a dog agility course, the popular Mutt Show and demonstrations by the U.S. Border Patrol K9s. Madcap Puppets’ “Annie Oakley’s Wild West Show,” interspersed with Sesame Street movies, will entertain kids all day at the PNC Theater, located inside the Secor Room. Madcap’s signature giant puppets were created by Jerry Handorf, who studied with Jim Henson and was a puppeteer on Sesame Street.

At 9:45 a.m., the winner of the Toledo Blade Pet Idol Contest will be announced at the festival.

The event is sponsored by Metroparks, Toledo Area Humane Society, Planned Pethood, The Blade, PNC Bank, 7 Up Bottling Group of Toledo and The Andersons, Inc. The festival also receives support from WGTE, Lucas County Children Services, Toledo Fire and Rescue, Toledo Kennel Club, Toledo Lucas County Public Library, Bedford Schools Robotics Team, Lucas County Dog Warden, WTOL TV 11, 101.5 The River and 107.7 The Wolf.
