It will be high-flying fun for the whole family at Toledo Executive (Metcalf) Airport as EAA Chapter 582 presents the Plane Fun Fly In 2011 Father’s Day weekend, June 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Toledo Executive (Metcalf) Airport, located at 28331 Lemoyne Rd., Millbury.

Throughout the weekend, experimental, antique and warbird aircraft will be on display. There will also be a historical engine museum, World War II military vehicles and military planes from the Gulf War, including an Army Chinook helicopter, A-10 Warthog, and a C-27J Transport.

As part of the EAA Young Eagles Program, free airplane rides will be offered to youths 8 to 17 years old. The program started was in 1992 to give interested young people the chance to go flying in a general aviation airplane. Since then, more than 1.6 million Young Eagles in 90 countries have taken to the skies with EAA member volunteer pilots. Youths who take the flight are presented with a certificate to mark the occasion.

Airplane rides will also be available for adults on a donation basis.

Youngsters will also have the opportunity to build a Wing Rib, fly a gas-powered model, build and fly a “string plane,” launch an air rocket and moon walk too.

Breakfast and lunch, including hot dogs and hamburgers, along with sweet treats and snacks will be available for purchase. Admission is $5. Kids under 7 get in free. Free parking is available.

Founded in 1953, EAA, the Experimental Aircraft Association, is an international aviation membership based in Osh Kosh, Wisc. Members, who number more than 160,000 throughout the U.S and abroad, include aviation enthusiasts of every age group, including airline and commercial pilots, engineers, business people and astronauts. Members enjoy all types of airplanes, including “experimental” aircraft – those aircraft built by individual craftsmen, rather than in a factory. Chapter 582 is based at Metcalf.
