The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announces that buckeyetraffic.org now offers traffic speed data in Toledo and five other major metro areas across the state.

This up-to-the-minute data is now available on ODOT’s BuckeyeTraffic.org website, providing motorists with travel times in Toledo, Cleveland, Akron/Canton, Youngstown, Dayton/Springfield, Columbus and Cincinnati/Northern KY.

Positioned along nearly every mile of Toledo’s interstate system, the newly installed radars detect the speed and movement of traffic along Interstate 75 from the Michigan border to Bowling Green, all of interstates 475 and 280 and SR 795.

“The solar powered Doppler radar units are a technological advancement in managing our freeway system. This new tool gives drivers real time information so they can make informed decisions about the routes they are taking” said ODOT District Two Deputy Director Todd Audet.

Traffic speed is displayed by color based on speed time. Vehicles traveling at a speed of 50 miles per hour or above are displayed as green, vehicles moving between 26 mph to 49 mph are displayed in yellow, and traffic that is moving 25 mph or slower is highlighted in red.

On May 2, Toledo and Cincinnati/Northern KY became the latest areas to join this statewide system. Similar equipment has already been installed in the Cleveland, Columbus, Akron/Canton and Dayton/Springfield areas.

Next summer, the radar network will also work with new digital message boards to be constructed along the Toledo metro interstate system as part of the Toledo Freeway Management System (FMS) project.
