A “silent” Night at the Movies planned in Pemberville
The Pemberville Freedom Area Historical Society will present “A Night at the Movies,” the fifth show in the third annual “Live in The House” concert series, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Pemberville Opera House.

“A Night at The Movies – The Silent Movies,” will feature three shorts by the comedic genius of silent films, Buster Keaton. Pianist Damian Stout will provide musical accompaniment for the films.

Lights After Christmas
The Toledo Zoo is offering one more opportunity to enjoy the Lights Before Christmas with a special Encore Presentation Friday, Jan. 7 and Saturday, Jan. 8 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Join the Trail Patrol
Metroparks is looking for enthusiastic people with good communication skills to represent the park district and provide information and assistance to park visitors and trail users as part of the Volunteer Trail Patrol.

Patrol options include foot, bike and horse. Volunteers patrol in Pearson, Wildwood, Oak Openings (includes mounted patrol), Secor, Side Cut, Swan Creek, Farnsworth and Providence Metroparks.

Applications will be taken in January and February, and training will begin in March. A general information meeting will be held Jan. 25 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Packer-Hammersmith Center at Pearson Metropark in Oregon.

All Hands on Deck!
Perrysburg Musical Theatre will welcome Jody Madaras and his Broadway pals back to Northwest Ohio with “All Hands on Deck,” an all-singing, all-dancing, patriotic tribute to the Big Band years.

Shows are set for Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. at Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Commodore Perry, Beck Auditorium, 140 E. Indiana Ave., Perrysburg.

Featured will be more than 40 songs from back in the days of road shows, war bond drives and radio broadcasts, including “Chattanooga Choo-Choo,” “Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe,” “Sentimental Journey,” “I'm In The Mood For Love,” and “Pennsylvania Polka,” among others.

Fandemonium!
The annual Fandemonium Hot Stove event to kick off the 2011 season of Tigers and Mud Hens baseball will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo.

From 5 to 6:30 p.m., mascots Muddy and Muddonna will be signing autographs in the Swamp Shop souvenir store. Ballpark tours will leave from the Swamp Shop throughout the night. Tours include the visitor’s clubhouse/locker room, Mud Hens clubhouse/locker room, batting cages (take some swings), press box, club and the club and suite level.

From 6:55 to 7:35 p.m., Detroit Tigers personnel will be available for a question-and-answer session on the fourth-floor Roost, and fans will get a preview of the upcoming 2011 season in Detroit and Toledo. Player autographs will not be available at this year’s event.

Afterward, the Tigers will raffle prizes, including autographed photos. At 7:45 p.m., the Mud Hens will hold a live auction to benefit the “Helping Hens” Charitable Fund.

Winter fun at Metroparks
Metroparks of the Toledo Area, which are open 7 a.m. until dark every day of the year, offer a range of winter activities to enjoy, including hills for sledding, trails for cross-country skiing and frozen ponds and lakes for ice skating.

The sledding hill at Pearson Metropark in Oregon is lighted for evening use, and park hours are sometimes extended to allow sledders to take advantage of good snow during the week. Pearson also has a lighted pond suitable for ice skating.

Anxious to try out those new skis? Trails in all nine Metroparks are rated for beginning skiers. Farnsworth, Oak Openings and Secor have beginner and intermediate trails; Wildwood has beginner, intermediate and advanced trails. A four-mile, intermediate cross-country ski trail is available at Oak Openings Preserve. Park at the Evergreen Lake Area.

All unpaved trails and open playfields in the Metroparks are suitable for cross-country skiing.
