Fassett Middle School celebrating 50 years with 5K
Fassett Middle School, 3025 Starr Ave., Oregon, will celebrate 50 years of excellence with a “Fabulous 50 5K” Oct. 9.

Registration for the 5K Race/Walk opens at 7:30 a.m. The kids’ quarter- mile race, open to age 10 and younger, starts  at 8:30 a.m. The 5K Race/Walk steps off at 9 a.m.

The course, which starts and finishes in front of the school, includes one water stop.

Awards will be presented to runners in various categories including a special award for the oldest Fassett alumni finisher.

A thrilling challenge
The Woodville Business Association is sponsoring a Fright Night, “Thriller” Street Dance Contest will be held Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at 108 E. Main St., Woodville (in the parking lot beside Peak Physical Therapy).

Participants are invited to show their rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance. Participation is open to individuals or groups of three or more in three age groups – 12 and under, 13-18 and 19 and older. The time limit is one and half to three minutes. A sound system will be provided, however entrants must bring their own CD or tape. Winners will be awarded cash prizes.

Dinner & a show
The Elmore Chamber of Commerce will present Enchante Cabaret’s “Witches Brew” by J.D. Attanasio Oct. 16 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran  Church, 19225 Witty Rd., Elmore.

Dinner, which will begin at 5:30 p.m., will include harvest salad, pork kabobs with wild rice, sweet potatoes, green beans and apple crisp. The show will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $35 per person and are available at Red, White and Blue, Cuttin’ Loose and the Elmore branch of Huntington Bank. Tickets may also be obtained by calling 419-855-4491 or 419-862-3874.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Elmore Fierworks 2011.

Enjoy fall in the country Oct. 9 as four Helena/Burgoon merchants plan open houses/special events.

Participating merchants include Chateau Tebeau Vineyard and Winery, 525 SR 635, Helena (a mile off Route 6), The Stone Patch, 3308 Main St., Burgoon; Cindy’s Sewing and Embrodiery, 2231 SR 590, Burgoon; and The Pond Builders, 1639 SR 590, Burgoon.

Visit all four locations and enter to win a gift valued at $100. Refreshments and maps will be provided at all four locations.


Nature Photo Contest
The National Center for Nature Photography in Secor Metropark will be accepting entries for the Celebrating Nature through Photography Contest throughout the month of October.

Entries may be dropped off at the center from noon to 5 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. The contest exhibit will begin Nov. 6 and continue through Dec. 18.
