A Ghostly Gathering is being planned in downtown Pemberville Oct. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The All Hallow’s Eve celebration, sponsored by Pemberville-Freedom Area Historical Society, promises nostalgic Halloween fun for all ages.
Festivities include: • Vintage hearse display, hosted by Riverbank Antiques;
• Tricks and treats available include kettle corn, fresh cider, French waffles, caramel apples, pumpkin ice cream and more.
• Be scared witless with the airing of a 1940’s Halloween radio show at 8 p.m. at the Pemberville Opera House. The program includes “The Undead” and “The Witches’ Tale” and “The Haunted Crossroads,” presented by the Black Swamp Players. Admission is $8. Highlights include works by Halloween artist Janet Davies and Halloween Hats on Parade by the Hat Ladies.
• Nostalgic Halloween keepsakes on display, hosted by Riverbank Antiques, Beeker’s General Store, Country Mercantile and Lori’s Country Closet, all of which will be open until 8 p.m.
• Children’s activities, including a Halloween balloon artist and Haunted Hydro monsters.
• Get a sneak peek of the Sneek! Peek! Porch Tour of six decorated porches, along with Pemberville’s Oldest Frame House and One-Room School and the Opera House lobby. Admission is $3 (wristband required).

The fun continues The Sneek! Peek porch tour continues Saturday Oct. 9 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Visitors may want to begin by touring the oldest home in town, where there will be a “boo-fet” in the kitchen featuring culinary delights. Maybe a séance in the parlor can help connect with old friends. Do you know who’s sleeping in the bed? Do you dare to learn your fate from the fortuneteller? Take a peek at the dolls and see how they are celebrating or enjoy the vintage decorations in the pantry.
Continuing on the tour, visitors will find Hansel and Gretel in need of help, friendly scarecrows with a plan to rid themselves of pesky crows, a haunted house and a special couple who has been in love for a very long time.
As is customary at any celebration there will be plenty of food (witch’s fingers or devil’s brew, anyone?), balloon fun, a headless horseman and even a juggler. Photos will be available.
At promptly 5:30 p.m., there will be a “You Are So Bootiful” costume parade for ages birth to 18. Winners will be chosen in three age categories, with $50 cash prizes awarded.
The historical society will provide trolley transportation for the comfort and convenience of visitors.
The purchase of a $5 wristband entitles youngsters to participate in all activities. Adults accompanied by children are free. A single adult pass is $3.
