Youths to present “There’s a Monster in My Closet!” The Pemberville Children’s Theatre will present “There’s a Monster in My Closet!” a musical featuring a cast and crew of local children Aug. 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. at the historic Pemberville Opera House. The musical features 27 local children ranging in age from 7 to 15 and is directed by Angela Patchett, of Toledo. Musical director is Donella Wilt, of Woodville.

The Sunday matinee will be preceded by a chicken BBQ on the Opera House lawn from 11 a.m. until gone. The cost is $9 for a half-chicken dinner and $4 for a child’s hot dog dinner.
Funding for the children’s programming at the Opera House is provided by The Gale and Marlyn Williamson Performing Arts Fund.
LHS celebrating 150 years The Lutheran Homes Society will celebrate 150 years of service Aug. 6 and 7 on the Toledo Home campus, located on Seaman and Wheeling streets.
The celebration will begin with a concert on the lawn Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Entertainment will include The Deutschmeister German Band, The Choraliers, Commanders of Harmony, Orphanage Museum tours and concessions. Saturday’s events, which will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., will include music by the Commanders of Harmony, Pride of Toledo Sweet Adelines, Cake Walkin’ Jass Band, Johnny Ginger and the Toledo Swiss Singers and Schuhplattler Dancers. Activities for all ages, include vintage games, food vendors, a chicken dinner, 1860s craft displays, a hot air balloon and more.
Free parking and shuttle service will be available Friday and Saturday at the Bayside Boardwalk, 2759 Seaman Rd.; New Harvest Christian Church, 3540 Seaman Rd.; and the former Pharm parking lot, 410 Wheeling St.
Plan to play at the zoo The Toledo Zoo and Fisher-Price have decades of experience in creating great memories for children, so it’s no surprise that they’ve joined forces for Fisher-Price Play Weekend, July 31 and Aug. 1.
All weekend long, children from 6 months to 5 years can explore the coolest new toys. In addition, the Fisher-Price Giant Play Space, which will be set up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Zoo’s Main Plaza, will give children plenty of room to try out some great new toys. In addition, they’ll find a giant inflatable Big Foot and a track where they can enjoy the new Power Wheels™, battery-operated ride-on cars.
On Saturday, July 31, kids will have a chance to meet Dora the Explorer, and on Sunday, Aug. 1, they can meet Big Foot! for 20 minutes at the top of each hour between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Life is “wild” at local refuge Did you know that well over 1,000 species of moths can be found right here in northwestern Ohio? Join Kenn Kaufman, world-renowned naturalist and author of the Kaufman Field Guide Series, for “The Magic of Moths and Other Nighttime Flyers” at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge visitor center Aug. 6 at 8 p.m.
Kaufman's program will begin with an indoor slide program about moth species and behavior. As soon as it gets dark, weather permitting, program participants will go outside with lights to attract moths and other insects.
Bring a camera with flash, a small flashlight and dress to be outdoors.
On Aug. 8, learn about the ecology and natural history of turtles in the Lake Erie from Kent Bekker, of the Toledo Zoo Department of Herpetology in “Turtles of the Lake Erie Marshes,” Aug. 8 at 2 p.m.
The free, informative presentation is part of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Association's “Naturally Speaking” seminar series, held on the second Sunday of each month (excluding holidays) at the refuge’s visitor center.

Comedy club night American Legion Post 114, 221 Park St., Oak Harbor, will hold a Comedy Club Night Aug. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Parking lot party Oregon Economic Development Foundation and the Eastern Maumee Bay Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Party in the Parking Lot Aug. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at 2460 Navarre Ave.
The event will include food, beverages and entertainment, along with the opportunity to network with others in the area.
Arts in the Park The Port Clinton Artists’ Club will present the 53rd “Arts in the Park” Saturday and Sunday Aug. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lakeview Park in Port Clinton.
The exhibition will feature works by nearly 150 artists coming from as far away as Florida. The show is free and open to the public.
In addition to Best in Show and People’s Choice, judging will be in multiple categories including ceramics, jewelry, misc. arts/crafts, paintings/drawings/photography, textiles/fiber art and wood. Music in the Park Lake Township’s Music in the Park continues at its temporary location – the Walbridge Pool, located on Parkview Drive off Walbridge Road.
The concerts, sponsored by the friends of Lake Township Parks, were previously held at Friendship Park, which was in the path of the June 5 tornado.
The Friday-evening concerts start at 6:30 p.m. Hot dogs, brats, root beer floats and soft drinks are available. The community is invited to bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of music. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted in the park. In the event of rain, concerts will be canceled.
