Packo and current Oregon resident Bess Packo, are included in the 92nd Annual Toledo Area Artists’ Exhibition, on display in the Toledo Museum of Art’s Works on Paper Galleries.
The show, which is on display through Aug. 22, features 103 works of art in various media, chosen from 789 entries.
Packo’s works, both taken with an iPhone camera, feature East Side locations. “Neighbors” depicts the East Toledo Historical Society at Navarre Park with a view of the Sun Oil Company as a background and “Twig Dance” was taken at Maumee Bay State Park.
Packo, a professional photographer, filmmaker and designer, is the grandson of Tony and Rose Packo, founders of Tony Packo’s Café in Birmingham. He grew up on Pickle Road in Oregon and graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School. He then studied graphic design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., on an Eastman Kodak scholarship. He worked for several years as a graphic designer in New York City and also taught typographic design at Parsons School of Design in Manhattan.
His photography has been featured in numerous national publications including TIME, USA Today, Esquire, Metropolitan Home and Communication Arts.
Currently, Packo operates a photo and film production company, Filmwerks Studios, located in a 19th-century former tobacco factory in Toledo’s Warehouse District.
