Rally by the Rails in Walbridge May 14 and 15 Loop Park in Walbridge will be the setting for the annual Rally by the Rails Festival May 14 and 15.
Rain or shine, the event will include fun for the whole family.
An Arts, Crafts & Hobby Show will be held throughout the festival. Limited indoor space is available. To reserve a spot, call Laura at 419-666-3039. There will also be a Tractor Show sponsored by Power of Yesteryear, amusement rides by Brown’s Amusements, a kiddie tractor pull, games, food, and live entertainment Friday and Saturday night by Dry Bones Revival.
On Saturday, Northwest Ohio Street Machiners will host a Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show. Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration is $7 in advance and $10 the day of the show. The annual parade will step off Saturday at 11 a.m.
Ottawa Wines offering tastings Ottawa Wines will open their doors May 1 at 18909 W. SR 51, Elmore, next to Elmore’s Little Grocery. A wine tasting will be held between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The winery offers apple wines in two varieties: Oak Tones, which is much like a chardonnay – fresh and crisp with an infusion of oak; and 524, which is similar to a Pinot Grigio, featuring a slight sweetness on the palate with apple overtones and crisp green apple finish.

The band performs Bluegrass music in their own way –no smoke and mirrors, no fancy light shows, just traditional Bluegrass music, played from the heart.
Cinco de Mayo celebration The Mexican culture is one of great music, dance and fun, and The Toledo Zoo’s Cinco de Mayo will celebrate all of that May 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Two dance groups will perform traditional Mexican dances throughout the day. The Ballet Folklorico Imagenes Mexicanas will perform at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and El Cozaron de Mexico Folklorico Dance group will perform at noon. and 1 p.m.
In addition, DJ Tony Rios will spin a selection of Mexican tunes throughout the day. A complete schedule of events and activities is available at www.toledozoo.org. All events and activities are free with a regular Toledo Zoo admission.
Idol Tour coming to Toledo Northwest Ohioans caught up in Idol Fever, will have a chance to see local favorite Crystal Bowersox and the other American Idol Top 10 finalists ¬– Aaron Kelly, Andrew Garcia, Casey James, Didi Benami, Katie Stevens, Lee DeWyze, Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus, and Tim Urban, as the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2010 makes a stop at the Huntington Center in Toledo on Sept. 2.
The American Idol website reports the tour will kick off July 1 at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and will end Sept. 14 at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
Tickets for the Toledo performance will go on sale Friday May 14 at 10 a.m.
Kids Rock the Zoo The Toledo Zoo is giving kids 12 and under a chance to party as only they can with Kids Rock the Zoo!
On Friday, May 7 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the zoo will get even wilder as the `tween set gets to dance, sing and generally rock out.
From a DJ spinning tunes on the zoo’s Africa! Overlook to a Radio Disney AM 910 Karaoke stage, the event is sure to be a blast. There will also be activity stations and an interactive Radio Disney AM 910 D-tour show full of games, music and fabulous Disney prizes.
There will be a Parents Zone area near the Kids Rock the Zoo area where adults can relax while the kids party. All children attending Kids Rock the Zoo must be accompanied by an adult chaperone to enter. There should be at least one adult chaperone for every five children. All children and their accompanying adults will be issued matching wristbands when they register in advance. These wristbands will be checked as groups exit, and all wristbands must match before children will be permitted to leave Zoo grounds. The Parents Zone is sponsored by Wendy’s.

Historical tea The Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society is hosting the fourth in the series of First Lady Teas with the “First Lady of Hilltop Farm,” Beatrice Potter May 13 at noon at the Historic Brandville School on Grasser Street in Oregon.
Doctor Mary Louise Glen of The University of Toledo and a member of the AAUW will portray Miss Potter. Reservations are $16 per person and must be made by calling Bonnie Olson at 419-696-0280.
Fun Spot memories? Fun Spot Arena in Oregon is getting ready to celebrate 50 years of business in Oregon.
Owners are looking for any pictures that were taken at Fun Spot; perhaps you have pictures from a birthday party, school skating party, church event, or just enjoying some time at Fun Spot during an open skate.
A prize will be awarded for the oldest picture submitted. Patrons or former patrons can send originals, which will be copied and returned; or copies. Please note if picture is to be returned. Also include the date, names of people in the picture and event the skaters pictured are attending (ex: school party, open skate, etc).
Pictures will be displayed at a 50-year celebration being planned for this summer. Everyone who sends a picture will get a buddy pass (purchase one entry, get one free entry) for the celebration.

Bead Stampede The Toledo Museum of Art’s community art project, The Bead Goes On, is in full swing with hundreds of handmade beads collected to date. Thanks to the creative expression of artists, enthusiasts and community members of all ages, the beads are being assembled into a bead curtain.
Join in the fun by taking part in the Museum’s Bead Stampede to create your own works of bead art on Mother’s Day weekend. Participants will learn to make or decorate beads in a variety of materials.
Free activities will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. May 7 in Libbey Court; from 1 to 5 p.m. May 8 in the Glass Pavilion; and 1 to 5 p.m. May 9 in the Glass Pavilion and Family Center.
The creations will go toward meeting the goal of collecting 10,000 beads to produce one stunning work of community art.
Those who catch the “bead fever” also can make some beads for themselves by signing up for an Art Hour to make flameworked glass beads to take home. Bright, colorful glass beads make wonderful additions to necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
In addition to making beads, free music performances, tours and special presentations, art demonstrations, Family Center activities and more will be offered at various times throughout the weekend.
