“Reflections from Within” Poetry Contest under way
The Wood County Committee on Aging has kicked off its fifth annual poetry contest, “Reflections from Within.”
The event, sponsored by Blakely Care Center, has typically drawn more than 40 entries from throughout Wood County.
The grand prize – a $25 gift card - will be awarded to one male and one female winner. Winning poems will be recognized at a Poetry Banquet Feb. 25 at 4:30 p.m. at the Wood County Senior Center, 305 North Main St., Bowling Green.
If you are interested in submitting your poem please read the following guidelines provided below.
The contest is open to Wood County residents age 50 and older. Entries should share stories of life, hope, dreams and love. “We are looking for poetry that, in some way, celebrates the heart and souls of members of Wood County citizens as they continue to celebrate their lives,” said Danielle Brogley, director of programs at the Wood County Committee on Aging.
Submissions are restricted to a letter-sized 8½ by 11 page. If hand-written, please print and if typing on a computer, use Verdana 12-point font. All styles of poems are acceptable but works must be original.
Two entries per individual will be accepted. Poems from previous years may be resubmitted if they did not win. Previous winners may submit new poems.
Poems are due to the Program Department at the Wood County Committee on Aging, 305 North Main St., Bowling Green, OH, 43402 by 4 p.m. Feb. 8. All entries must include the poet’s name, phone number and address. Submissions may be e-mailed to
