Then and now: Clay’s first majorettes together again at recent reunion

In August, members of the Clay High School Class of 1946 got together for a reunion held at Christ Dunberger American Legion Post 537 in Oregon.

Among the attendees were Joanne Lutz Shanks, Joyce Siewert Kelly, Marilyn Phillips Brossia and Doris Phillips Hartman. The four shared a special bond, (other than the fact that Marilyn and Doris are sisters). Back in 1942, the four held the distinction of being Clay’s first majorettes.

“Three of us attended Coy School together,” Joanne Recalled. “Joyce came in the seventh grade. She belonged to a drum and bugle corps.
 
Genoa band members got in step with a little help from a friend

It might be hard to imagine now, but members of the Genoa High School band didn’t always step with such precision and confidence.

From July 21 to Aug. 1, band members packed up their fans and water bottles and headed off to camp at Heidelberg College. After camp, band members continued to put in many long, hot hours of practice – generally at least eight hours a week, and often 10 or more to prepare for Friday-night halftime shows.
 
College Fair planned for October 6 at Terra

The annual Sandusky County Area College Fair will be held Oct. 6 in the Student Activities Center on the Terra Community College campus.

Representatives from more than 70 colleges and universities will be on hand from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to answer questions about majors, athletics, student activities, financial aid, housing, costs and career opportunities.

In addition to the college and university representatives, there will also be a financial aid information session at 6 p.m. in Building B, Room 101. Campus maps are available online at www.terra.edu. For more information, call 419-559-2349.
