Thank a teacher during PTA Teacher Appreciation Week

“There is no program or policy that can substitute for a mother or father who will attend . . . parent-teacher conferences or help with the homework or turn off the TV, put away the video games, or read to their child. Responsibility for our children's education must begin at home."

These were the words of President Barack Obama as he addressed a joint session of Congress in February. He also encouraged all parents to attend school events and volunteer at school.

Terra announces new wind power technology certificate
To help train employees necessary for new green-collar jobs, Terra Community College will offer a new Wind Power Technology Certificate beginning this fall.

“This certificate will prepare students for a rewarding career in the fast-growing field of renewable energy,” said Bruce Meyer, dean of Technologies and Workforce Development at Terra. “And it will be stackable, meaning a student can use their certificate credits toward an associate degree.”

Micki Zartman’s passion to share the world of agriculture infects nearly everyone she meets, and that likely won’t stop even after she officially retires this year from her role as chair of Ohio State University’s Scarlet and Gray Ag Day.

The annual event, Zartman’s brainchild, was renamed “Micki Zartman Scarlet and Gray Ag Day” in 2007.
