Black Swamp Educator’s Extravaganza
Educators, scout leaders and youth group leaders are invited to discover new ways to engage and motivate youth of all ages at the Annual Black Swamp Educators Extravaganza (BSEE) June 16-18.

Participants learn about the Toledo Botanical Gardens, composting, birding, Junior Master Gardener program, ag in the classroom, rocks and gems, pottery, the Marblehead Lighthouse with a display of soils gathered from Lake Erie’s coastline, lessons on butterflies and more.

Why college rejection might be a blessing in disguise

The mail carrier walks up to your postbox, opens the door and deposits an envelope that holds the key to your teenager’s plans for the next four years. As you reach in, you see the return address from College X, your son or daughter’s first choice. Heart beating, you bring the letter inside to wait for your student to open it.

Four options are possible — acceptance, being on a wait list, deferment/mid-year admittance or rejection. The first is easy, the next two offer options, but what about the fourth? Well, unless the college made a mistake, the decision is pretty much final — signed, sealed and delivered.

Online academy helps students avoid summer school

This summer, students in  will be able to recover lost credits without the dreaded summer school hassle, thanks to an online program that provides students with an opportunity to recover graduation credits by studying at home, on their computers at their convenience.

Through Toledo’s Phoenix Academy, students in grades nine to 12 can recover credits from home, at their convenience 24/7. Online lessons are available on the family computer  or any computer anywhere. Teacher support by e-mail is available to Phoenix Academy students seven days a week.
