summer academy for middle school students
held at Clay High School.

School’s Tech Prep programs, with support from the Northwest Ohio Tech Prep Consortium, have presented a summer academy for the Oregon City School District’s middle school students. Some of these academies were based on rockets, hover-crafts and solar energy.

Under the direction of Steve Bialorucki, this year’s program, held last month, was about robots. The students were given short lessons and extended hands-on activities explaining the six simple machines and their relationship to robots, and then were guided through the building of their own hand-made wooden robot to compete against the others in the group on the last day during the “Robot Wars.”

It’s just about that time again.

In the coming weeks, parents and students will be heading to the stores to assemble the pencils, scissors, glue and other necessities for a successful school year.

To help ensure success for every student, two local organizations are collecting supplies to help needy families give their kids the tools they need for going back to school.

The Salvation Army of Northwest Ohio, in conjunction with the Charter One Foundation, is conducting its annual Tools for School campaign, designed to help low-income families.
