Eastwood Middle School student Hannah Hodulik thinks littering stinks and she wants everyone to know it. Sixth-grader Hannah was one of two winners in the Wood County Solid Waste District’s third billboard art contest, held in honor of Earth Day.

The contest, open to Wood County students in grades K-6, challenged entrants to come up with a design to emphasize the importance of litter prevention for a healthy environment. Nearly 800 entries were received.

Winners enjoyed a visit by Lucky Ladybug, the state mascot for litter prevention, and were given an Earth Day T-shirt and $100 worth of environmental education books for their classrooms.

Hannah’s billboard is located along Route 6, just east of the Wood County Landfill.

The contest was funded by the 2012 Litter Grant through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Litter Prevention and Recycling.
