Owens Phi Theta Kappa members
Nichole Aldrich and Regina Maynard, of Gibsonburg were among Owens Community College student leaders inducted into the fall Phi Theta Kappa International hall of Fame.

The overall mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize academic excellence among two-year college students, provide opportunities for leadership training and an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and ideals.

Selection criteria for students receiving the honor is based upon enrollment in a two-year college, completing a minimum number of course hours set forth by the individual chapter, achieving a minimum 3.5 grade point average and exemplifying academic excellence, as determined by faculty.


Eastwood band members feted
Eastwood High School band members Melissa Russell (flute), Jenna Moore (clarinet), and Faith Hardy (alto saxophone) have been accepted into the Ohio Music Education Association District 1 JH Honors Band.

The band will perform Jan. 29 at 2:30 p.m. at the Stranahan Theater, conducted by Jon Waters, assistant director of The Ohio State University Marching Band.

In addition, Brianna Moore (trombone), was accepted to the Ohio Music Education Association District 1 HS Honors Band, which will perform Jan. 29 at 7 p.m., also at the Stranahan Theater. Chad R. Nicholson, director of Instrumental Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, will be the conductor.

Both events are free and open to the public.
