Owens Foundation awards $111,000 in scholarships Owens Community College Foundation has awarded more than $111,000 in scholarships for the 2009-10 academic year to students for their outstanding achievements.

Outstanding youths honored Waite High School student Tyrena Depp, 17, was a finalist in the Coalition for Youth Enrichment (CYE) 2010 Youth Walk of Fame Awards, in the category of Entrepreneurship.
The Coalition is a subcommittee of The Community Partnership, in partnership with the Toledo Zoo and through support from the Mental Health & Recovery Services Board of Lucas County.

Dana Scholar Amber Shaffer, of Elmore, a junior equine business management/business management major at The University of Findlay, has been named a 2009 Dana Scholar by the University. She is a 2007 graduate of Woodmore High School. Along with the distinction comes a $500 scholarship and the opportunity to be mentored by the Dana Chair, Dr. William E. Ruse. The Dana Scholars Program allows participants to receive opportunities to hone their professional skills outside of the classroom with visits to area companies.
At UF, Shaffer is also active in Sigma Kappa Sorority, Greek Council, marching band and wind ensemble. She was named Greek Woman of the Year and has been named to the Dean's List.
Spelling Bee champ Eastwood eighth-grader Lucas Liner emerged victorious in the recent Wood County Spelling Bee. It is the Eastwood eighth-grader’s second time winning the first-place title – a repeat of his win in 2007. Luckey fifth-grader grader Ricky Martinez also made it to the final round.
Lake to present “Oklahoma!” The Music Department of Lake High School will present “Oklahoma!” March 4 and 6 at 7 p.m. and March 7 at 2 p.m.
“Oklahoma!” – Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first musical – tells the story of a cowboy named Curly (Spencer Genson) and the girl he loves, Laurey (Stormi Marie). Complicating things is Jud (Alex Stefan), who works on the farm owned by Laurey’s Aunt Eller (Mackenzie Conine) and wants Laurey for himself. Other lead characters include Ado Annie (Jenson Strock), Will (Forrest Bennett) and Ali Hakim (Michael Moon). In all, more than 60 students comprise the cast, pit orchestra and crew.
