Local student leaders engaged in Youth In Philanthropy Encouraging Excellence (YIPEE) have announced a deadline of Friday Feb. 8 for the return of their annual “Request for Proposals” from Northwest Ohio organizations seeking grants to affect the lives of youth.
YIPEE is sponsored by the Toledo Community Foundation and coordinated by Leadership Toledo staff to encourage graduates of Youth Leadership Toledo (which takes place during their sophomore years of high school) to learn the tenets of philanthropy, thoughtful giving and wise fundraising as they complete their high school education.
YIPEE student leaders from high schools throughout the greater Toledo community devote significant hours during their junior and senior years to secure the dollars that fund the annual grant requests. To do so, the students plan and execute fundraising events, secure corporate donations and support from a variety of organizations, and make individual solicitations and personal contributions.
The students themselves establish the annual goal. For 2013, the students intend to reach or exceed their goal of $20,000.
Raising the money is only part of YIPEE - the other is to distribute the funds to non-profits that positively affect the lives of teens. One hundred percent of the funds raised go to the organizations the students deem have the greatest impact. The typical YIPEE grant is $900.
Organizations wishing to apply for a grant must do so online and will find the application at www.leadershiptoledo.org/yipee/grant. The 2013 Grant Ceremony will be held in May.
