Raising the roof

The new Skilled Trades Center at Terra Community College is nearly under roof. The $3.5 million
building is expected to open for classes in the fall. It will house labs for HVAC, welding, power
technologies and truck driving. Telamon Construction of Sandusky is the general contractor on

Something to cheer about

A recent story in The Press detailed a school-wide fundraising effort for the American Cancer Society held at Allen Elementary School in Genoa. When the counting was completed, the total amount collected was a whopping $12,242.30. The top collectors included Katie Gruic ($1,000), Hunter Simmons ($700), Brody Helle  ($606.88), Caleb Jerew ($475) and Doug Bergman ($450). The students were treated to a limo ride and lunch with Assistant Principal Cari Buehler (pictured) Feb. 18 at Rayz Café in Genoa.

“Words of a Better World” earn Lake 8th-grader honors

Acceptance.
Peace.
Hope.
Compassion.

For Lake Middle School eighth-grader David Henninger, these words not only embody the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, they also offer the promise of a better world for his and future generations.

As part of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission’s Art, Essay and Multimedia Contest, David’s social studies teacher Nicole Bazzoli recently challenged her students to interpret the following quote from Dr. Martin Luther King:
