An Ohio State/Michigan Tailgate Party will be held Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Sr. Diane Hay Community Center at St. Jerome School in Walbridge. Live entertainment will be provided by Dave Carpenter and the Jaeglers. There will also be a corn hole tournaments, raffles, silent auctions and door prizes. To kick off the party, a 5K race and one-mile walk will be held at 9 a.m. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Overall, male/female winners will receive $50 gift certificates to Dick’s sporting goods. Job search strategies “One Size Does Not Fit All” will be the theme of a program on job search strategies to be presented Nov. 3 and 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Rossford Public Library, 720 Dixie Highway. The program, presented by Nick Nigro, Davis College career services director, will discuss how to promote yourself in today’s competitive job market. Attendance is free and open to the community. The meeting will be held in the Central Catholic Sullivan Center Fondessy Room at 6 p.m. The evening will include presentations about the process of sending a child to a Catholic high school and advice about selecting the best high school to fit your student’s needs. Information about testing, scholarships, financial aid and work-study programs, academics, college planning, athletics and extra-curricular activities, and technology will also be available. Lead-safe Renovation training The Sandusky County Health Department and Bowling Green State University will offer (EPA and HUD approved) Lead-safe Renovation Training for contractors, renovators and remodelers Nov. 19 from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Sandusky County Department of Job and Family Services Building, 2511 Countryside Dr. in Fremont. Lead-safe Renovation Training is required for anyone wishing to bid on federally assisted housing rehabilitation projects. Attending this training also offers an opportunity to satisfy much of the Ohio EPA requirement for lead-safe training for contractors. Federal and State guidelines and regulations will be explained. The training will be free to participants through the Lead Outreach and Training in Northwest Ohio Program funded by a grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency to Bowling Green State University. Gangwer, Sandusky County Sheriff, has established a memorial scholarship fund at Terra Community College in his name. The David G. Gangwer Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund will provide scholarships for Sandusky County students enrolled in Terra’s Law Enforcement programs. It was created through the generosity of the family, the many friends who contributed memorials and the Croghan Colonial Bank. Gangwer, who passed away Aug. 31, first served the area as a patrolman for the Fremont Police Department from 1966 to 1972. He joined the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office in 1972 and worked his way through the ranks. He was elected Sheriff in 1985 and was in his sixth term in that position when he died. Small Business Basics The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Terra Community College is offering free, two-hour seminars, “Small Business Basics,” designed to answer questions about starting, buying or expanding a small business. The seminar will help entrepreneurs avoid costly mistakes and unnecessary steps when starting a business. Participants will learn the basics of name registration, licensing, taxes, zoning, business entities, employees, insurance, financing and business planning.
