The Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce and the 30th Anniversary Apple Festival Committee is busy finishing up last-minute details for this year’s event.

The schedule for Saturday Oct. 11 will kick off with the Baking Contest starting at 8 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. The ceremony will include the introduction of the 2008 Apple Royalty and the winner of the Dorothy Heiks award.

The Baby Contest is sure to be a hit with all of the little ones dressed for the theme of the ”Little Apple Bakers.”

Another event the kids will want to enter, is the kiddie tractor pull sponsored by the  Oak Harbor FFA club.

The Fulton County Blue Grass Band will perform on stage at both 12:30 and 9 p.m.

The kiddie parade “Under the Apple Tree,” will be followed by the Grand Parade with the theme “Let’s Celebrate” in honor of the Apple Fest’s 30th birthday.

Members of the community are invited to get their acts ready for the talent show, which will be held a 6 p.m.

Sunday’s events will begin with a car show and kids’ activity tent and the famous “Apple Run” for both youth and adults.

Local talent will be showcased, including demonstrations by the Shorin Ryu Martial Arts Academy and performances by Class “A” Studio of Dance and the VIP Express Cloggers. Benton-Carroll-Salem school choirs will be highlighted in the afternoon.

Near the log cabin, a memorabilia display of past Apple Festival items will be available for viewing.

The Portage Fire Station will again be hosting bingo and offering smokehouse demonstrations for children.

And of course, the festival would not be complete without the Boy Scouts Apple Butter Stir and Sale, children’s rides, food and craft vendors including the craft show at the Community Markets VFW Hall.

There will be something for everyone at this year’s Apple Fest. To enter any of the events listed or to obtain more information, call the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce at 419-898-0479 or visit www.oakharborohio.net.
