Did you ever wonder what does it take to be a zookeeper?
Learn more about the zoo's animal keepers at the zoo's National Zookeeper Week celebration, set from July 23 to 25. Established by the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK), National Zookeeper Week offers visitors an opportunity to talk to Toledo Zoo keepers about the care they provide for the zoo’s animals each day.
It's clear they do a lot more than pick up poop!
In addition to keeper talks, visitors can watch feeding and enrichment demonstrations throughout the day. See the animals in action during the enrichment activities, designed to give animals an opportunity to interact with their environments. A complete schedule is as follows:
July 23: Primate Forest, 10:30 a.m.; Aquarium, 11 a.m.; Kindom of the Apes: Orangutans, 1:30 p.m.; Aviary, 2 p.m.; Education Animal Center, 3 p.m.
July 24: Primate Forest, 10:30 a.m.; Aquarium, 11 a.m.; Education Animal Center, 11:30 a.m.; Kingdom of the Apes: Orangutans, 1:30 p.m.; Africa!, 2 p.m.; Kingdom of the Apes: Gorillas, 3 p.m.
July 25: Kingdom of the Apes: Gorillas, 10:30 a.m.; Aquarium, 11 a.m.; Vulture, 11:30 a.m.; African Savanna: Otters, 1:30 p.m.; Africa!, 2 p.m.; Education Animal Center 3 p.m.
The Toledo Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo.
