PRIZM Creative Community invites the public to the opening reception of the 2010 Salon des Refusés Art Exhibition in Toledo Friday July 9 from 6-10 p.m.

The Salon opens the same evening as the TAA Show at the Toledo Museum of Art, and is held across the street at the Parkwood Gallery, enabling art lovers to enjoy a full evening of festivities. The Parkwood Gallery is located in the Professional Building at 1838 Parkwood Ave.

The Awards Assembly for the Salon show will be held at 9 p.m., following the awards assembly at the museum, which is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Serving the community as this years Salon Show judges will be Arts Advocate Mary T. Wolfe of Perrysburg, and Artist Emanuel Enriquez, of Bowling Green.

Wolfe has been an independent art consultant, international lecturer, artist and interior designer. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in art history from Wellesley College, a master of arts in history of art and painting from Bowling Green State University, and she was awarded a doctorate of arts degree in 2006.

She was appointed director of exhibitions at the McFall Center Gallery at BGSU from 1977-1982, and served three five-year terms as a member of the Ohio Arts Council.

One of the favorite public sculptures Enriquez has done for the area is called “The Knothole Gang,”  which is located on the sidewalk along St. Clair Street in Toledo at Fifth Third Ball Park. The bronze sculpture features four life-sized children looking through the knotholes of a fence to enjoy a baseball game.

Enriquez is a veteran of the Army, and a retiree from Chrysler Corporation. In his retirement, he has continued to follow his dreams and has been successful in helping and encouraging others to do so.

Following the opening reception the exhibit will run daily Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m. through Aug. 20. There will be additional evening hours to enjoy the exhibition on Friday evening Aug. 6 from 6-10 p.m.

The Salon des Refusés Show, which in French means “exhibit of rejects,” takes its name from an exhibition held in Paris in 1863 by Napoleon III for those artists whose work had been rejected by the prestigious Paris Salon. A Toledo tradition the Salon des Refusés show is an exhibit for art not accepted by the Toledo Area Artists (TAA) exhibition held each year in the Toledo Museum of Art.

The Toledo Salon des Refuses show grew out of the realization that many selections of quality art were not available for viewing for the public viewing.

In keeping with its tax-exempt purposes, PRIZM sponsors the Salon Show as a service to the community including local artists.
