The Class of 2010 at Terra Community College and those who attend this year’s commencement will notice a new part of the ceremony aimed at recognizing armed services veterans.
Flags from all five service branches will be included in the processional, and the color guard from the Coast Guard Station Marblehead will present the U.S. and Ohio flags.
The college recently received a new state flag from DeAnn Louk, of the Ottawa County Veterans Services Office.
Veterans will be encouraged to stand as their service flag passes.
“We are so pleased to add this very moving element to our ceremony,” said Joyce Spencer, admissions and financial aid adviser. “It’s a perfect opportunity to recognize and thank our veterans in a very dignified way.”
Commencement ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 7 in the Student Activities Center.
