As if anyone needs more reasons to spend a spring weekend at the Toledo Zoo, two special events are sure to make a zoo visit even more special.
On Saturday, May 8, the zoo will celebrate International Migratory Bird Day, while Sunday, May 9 the zoo will honor moms on Mother’s Day.
International Migratory Bird Day, which began in 1993, highlights the migration of nearly 350 species of birds that nest in the U.S. and Canada and spend the winter in South and Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Visitors will be invited to follow a migratory path around the zoo, with interactive games and activities at each station, learning about our fine feathered friends and discover what makes their annual journey so special.
On Mother’s Day the zoo will offer free admission for all moms who come with their kids. Children will also be able to make their own presents, including decorated picture frames and Mother’s Day cards (while supplies last).
In addition, a Mother’s Day brunch will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call 419-385-5721, ext. 3092 to get prices or reserve a table.
The Toledo Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends in May) and is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo.
For more information, visit www.toledozoo.org or call 419-385-4040. Lucas County residents are admitted free of charge each Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. ID showing proof of residency is required.
