Once again, pinwheels are popping up in front of the Ottawa County Court House in Port Clinton, the Ottawa County Community Resource Centre in Oak Harbor, and the Northpoint Educational Service Center in Genoa.
The pinwheels are also spinning statewide as the country takes a moment during April to recognize Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month.
Nearly 107,000 pinwheels have been distributed statewide by Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) Ohio as the centerpiece of its campaign, "Pinwheels for Prevention." The pinwheels represent the annual number of reports received across the state, regarding child abuse or neglect. In Ottawa County, that number is 320.
The display is intended to raise awareness about prevention, focusing on community activities and public policies that prioritize prevention to help ensure child abuse and neglect never occur.
In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month and Pinwheels for Prevention, Prevent Child Abuse Ohio, the Ottawa County Family and Children First Council, and the Child Assault Prevention Program will host a kickoff ceremony Friday, April 8 at 11 a.m. on the lawn of the Ottawa County Court House. The public is invited to attend.
