Maple sugaring is an ageless tradition and a sure sign of spring. It's also a cause for celebration. The sap is running in the trees and everyone is invited to Pearson Metropark in Oregon this Saturday, March 27 for some sugary, tree tappin' fun.
The festivities begin at the Packer-Hammersmith Center at 10 a.m. with tree tapping demonstrations, storytelling, maple sugar tasting, parlor games, nature walks and Native American demonstrations. The activities will continue until 3 p.m.
The Johlin Cabin, located on the new, north side of the park, will also be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with more free hands-on activities.
Come early Saturday for the annual Friends of Pearson pancake breakfast at Macomber Lodge from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Maple sugaring will also be the topic of a lecture Sunday at 2 p.m. at Macomber Lodge. The event is the final program in the March Sunday Series, sponsored by Metroparks and Friends of Pearson.
