For the past 20 years, Theater League has presented the best and brightest of Broadway to Toledo.
The Lincoln Mercury Broadway Series will create all-new memories in 2010-11 with classics "A Chorus Line," and "Fiddler on the Roof," and Toledo premieres "The Color Purple," "Cirque Dreams Illumination" and "Legally Blonde."
Season ticket packages, which include all five nationally-touring Broadway favorites, start at $85 and will be available May 24. They can be purchased online at theaterleague.com, by calling 419-381-8851 or by visiting the Stranahan box office.
The series will with Tony Award ® and Pulitzer Prize winning musical "A Chorus Line" Oct. 28-31. On a bare stage, in an empty theater, 17 dancers put it all on the line for a chance at a Broadway show. From hysterical to heartbreaking, these performers share their stories, dreams and fears all in an effort to get the job. Next, the series presents the classic tale of love, laughter and tradition, "FIddler on the Roof," which takes the stage Feb. 3-6, 2011. The story centers around Tevye, who struggles to maintain a sense of tradition and family in a changing world. "Fiddler" won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and is considered a classic of American Musical Theater. March 10-13, 2011 brings the premiere of "A Color Purple," a Tony-nominated musical based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Alice Walker and the Academy Award® Winning film by Steven Spielberg. It tells the inspiring story of a woman named Celie, who finds the strength to triumph over adversity, and discovers her unique voice in the world. Next up is "Cirque Dreams Illumination," April 7-10, 2011. From the creators of "Jungle Fantasy," this new incarnation takes the audience on a fascinating journey into the depths of a city that ignites with illumination when Cirque Dreams imagination, suspense and theatrical innovation turns “everyday ordinary…into bright and extraordinary.” The series concludes with "Legally Blonde" May 5-8, 2011. Based on the hit 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon, "Legally Blonde" follows sorority girl Elle Woods from the boutique to the courtroom and proves that being true to yourself never really goes out of style.
