ProMedica Health System (PHS) announced that it will no longer restrict children from visiting its Ohio hospitals, which include Bay Park Community Hospital in Oregon, Defiance Regional Medical Center in Defiance, Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Fostoria Community Hospital in Fostoria, and The Toledo Hospital and Toledo Children’s Hospital in Toledo. The ban was lifted due to a steady decline in the number of flu cases in northwest Ohio. The system’s temporary visitation restriction policy remains in effect at its Michigan hospitals due to ongoing concerns across the state about the number of flu cases. PHS’ Michigan hospitals include: Bixby Medical Center in Adrian and Herrick Medical Center in Tecumseh.
Last October, PHS announced that visitors with flu-like symptoms and children 17-years-old or younger would not be allowed into its hospitals. PHS joined other health systems and hospitals in the region, and across the country in taking this step to help reduce the spread of the flu. “Although we have lifted our children visitation restrictions in Ohio, we may reinstate them at any time if warranted by an increase in flu activity in the region,” says Brian Dick, corporate director, PHS Infection Prevention and Control. “We still recommend that anyone with flu-like symptoms stay home and continue to take precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.” For more information about the flu, including prevention tips, visit www.cdc.gov.
