Owens Community College will honor American service men and women as students host Veterans Day activities on Nov. 11. The activities are free and the public is encouraged to attend.
A flag-raising ceremony will be held at noon in front ofAdministration Hall. A moment of silence will follow the ceremony. Additionally, World War II veteran Frank Duncan, of Perrysburg, will serve as a guest speaker and discuss his wartime experience and how it compares to modern day.
In addition, chase away the fall chills with the Veterans Day Chili Cook-Off, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. inthe College Hall Atrium. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample an assortment of chili from various individuals and then vote on their favorite edible delight. Free-will donations wil lbe accepted and will entitle each person to sample the various chilis. All proceeds from the Chili Cook-Off, which is being presented by the Veterans Student Club, will be donated to Honor Flight Northwest Ohio, which is dedicated to sending veterans of Northwest Ohio to Washington D.C. to see the memorials built and dedicated in their honor. Founded in 2007, the organization has safely flown over 330 veterans to Washington D.C.
