Bowling Green is the home of the only curling club in Northwest Ohio and one of only four such clubs in the state.
Since 1967, participants have been quietly throwing rocks down the curling ice at the BGSU Ice Arena on Mercer Street.
Curling was little known in the United States until it debuted as an official Winter Olympic sport in 2002. As we approach the 2010 Winter Olympics in February, people are once again becoming interested in this unique game.
The Bowling Green Curling Club invites all who would like to try the Olympic sport to come to the BGSU Ice Arena any Tuesday evening Nov. 3 through Dec. 8. (There will be no curling during Thanksgiving week.)
During open curling time, which will be offered from 7-9 p.m., club members will be on hand to give basic instruction. Participants will practice skills and then play a short game. The cost is $10 per person. Bring clean tennis shoes and dress comfortably for air temperatures at 40 degrees.
